Joe Basile
Some stories begin with a dream. This one begins with a blank space. Joe Basile went on a vacation and woke up six weeks later in a New York hospital, with no memory of the accident that had nearly taken his life. Plane Truth is the story of what happened, but even more than that, it is the story of the man behind that moment, the life he built, the losses he carried, and the reason his survival feels so deeply personal.
About The Author
Joe Basile
Joe Basile writes the way some people talk when they have nothing to prove. Directly. Honestly. Without dressing things up too much. That works in his favor because his story does not need extra noise around it.
Raised in Clifton, New Jersey, Joe learned young that life is built through work, consistency, and showing up. Those habits stayed with him. As he got older, he built a successful career in high-end audio and video, eventually launching his own company, The Media Room. He became the kind of businessman people trusted because he valued doing things right and keeping his word.
His life, though, was never shaped by work alone. Family loss, marriage, fatherhood, heartbreak, and later love all left their mark. In Plane Truth, he brings those experiences to the page in a voice that feels lived in rather than polished. That makes the memoir hit harder. You are not reading someone trying to sound profound. You are reading someone who has actually been through enough to understand what matters.
About The Book
PLANE TRUTH
Plane Truth opens in confusion. Joe wakes up in a hospital bed, weak, disoriented, and unable to understand how he got there. The last thing he remembers is falling asleep while on vacation with the woman he loves. What he is slowly told feels unreal: on the final day of a trip to St. Barths, he was struck in the head by the tire of a low-flying plane and fell into a six-week coma.
But this memoir does not stay inside the shock of that one event. It moves through the life that came before it. Joe looks back at his New Jersey childhood, the discipline that came from work, the pain of losing his sister young, the example set by his father, the business he built with pride, and the relationship that made that season of life feel full. The result is not just a survival story. It is a deeply personal story about memory, love, effort, and the strange way a single second can divide a life in two.
